Officers listen to each other's radio conversations so they can quickly provide backup if needed, Harder said. In the villages and city, this type of backup is only a minute or two away, said Harder, although in many cases this isn't the case for his sheriff's patrols.

This is why I choose to live in Johnson City. We have a paid police department with a 1-2 minute response time. The sheriff with county wide coverage could be considerably longer.
